M1:1150 — هر نفس نو می‌شود دنیا و ما / بی‌خبر از نو شدن اندر بقا

This couplet presents a core concept in Sufi metaphysics, often associated with Ash'arite theology: the perpetual re-creation of the cosmos (khalq-e jadid).

Rumi has just described how forms emerge from the ocean of meaning and then return, like waves rising and falling back into the sea. He likens this to a constant death and return for each individual. The present couplet extends this idea from the individual soul to the entire phenomenal world. "Every instant" (har nafas), both the cosmos ("the world") and our own being ("we") are annihilated and created anew by the divine will.

However, because this happens with inconceivable speed and seamlessness, we are "unaware" (bi-khabar) of the process. Our senses perceive a continuous, enduring existence, which Rumi calls baqa (permanence or subsistence). The illusion of stability masks the reality of constant, dynamic flux. The subsequent verses use the analogy of a rapidly spun spark or firebrand, which appears to the eye as a solid, continuous circle of light, to illustrate how the speed of creation produces this illusion of permanence.
