مولانا دفتر پنجم را با نام حسامالدین چلبی آغاز میکند و میگوید که این مرد بزرگ، که همچون نور ستارگان راهنماست، از او خواسته است که سرودن این دفتر را شروع کند.
این بیت، سرآغاز دفتر پنجم مثنوی است. مولانا، طبق سنت خود در ابتدای اکثر دفاتر، سخن را با ستایش و خطاب به مرید و انگیزهٔ اصلی سرایش مثنوی، یعنی حسامالدین چلبی، شروع میکند.
مولانا او را «شاه» میخواند که نشانهٔ سلطنت او بر عالم معنا و جایگاه والای روحانی اوست. سپس او را به «نور انجم» (روشنایی ستارگان) تشبیه میکند. این تشبیه بسیار دقیق است؛ همچنان که ستارگان در تاریکی شب راهنمای مسافران هستند، حسامالدین نیز برای سالکان طریقت، راهنما و روشنیبخش است. این نور، برخلاف نور خورشید که همه چیز را یکسان روشن میکند، نوری است که در ظلمتِ غفلت و حیرت، مسیر را به طور خاص به پویندگان نشان میدهد.
مصرع دوم به شکل مستقیم به علت سروده شدن این دفتر اشاره دارد: این حسامالدین است که «طالب» و درخواستکنندهٔ آغاز «سِفر پنجم» (کتاب پنجم) است. این بیت تأکیدی است بر این واقعیت که مثنوی حاصل یک جوشش درونی در پاسخ به یک تقاضای بیرونی از سوی یک مخاطبِ کاملاً همدل و همراز است. بدون تقاضا و حضور حسامالدین، این چشمه جاری نمیشد.

Rumi begins Book Five by announcing that his beloved disciple and patron, Husam al-Din Chalabi, has requested that he start composing this next volume of the Masnavi.
This couplet opens the fifth of the Masnavi's six books. Like the prologues to Books Two, Three, and Four, it begins by directly addressing and praising Husam al-Din Chalabi, the disciple whose request initiated the entire project. Rumi's composition was not a solitary act of writing but a process of oral dictation, with Husam al-Din acting as both catalyst and scribe.
The verse establishes Husam al-Din's supreme spiritual rank. Calling him a 'king' (shah) and the 'light of the stars' (nur-e anjom) is not mere flattery. For Rumi, Husam al-Din is a perfected spiritual guide, a manifestation of divine light whose brilliance outshines all other luminaries. He is the reason for the Masnavi's existence, the audience and inspiration for whom the river of Rumi's poetry flows.
The second line, 'is the one who seeks the beginning of the fifth book,' frames the act of creation as a response to a sacred request. It underscores the collaborative and performative nature of the Masnavi. The epic poem unfolds not according to a pre-set plan, but in real time, prompted by the spiritual thirst of its primary recipient. This opening immediately grounds the book in the living relationship between master and disciple, which is the heart of the Sufi path.
