M4:117 — گرچه عالم را ازیشان چاره نیست / این سخن اندر ضلال افکندنیست

This couplet follows a discussion where Jesus (peace be upon him) identifies God's wrath as the most terrible thing in existence, and the abandonment of one's own wrath as the only safeguard against it. The preceding couplet (M4:116) asks what hope for mercy such a wrathful person has, unless that 'unskilled' one changes their quality. This beyt (M4:117) then serves as a caution. Rumi acknowledges that people consumed by anger are a pervasive reality in the world ('Though the world cannot escape their presence'). However, he immediately warns that merely observing or discussing this fact, without internalizing the lesson and striving to overcome one's own anger, is itself a form of 'ضلال' (spiritual error or misguidance). It's not enough to intellectually grasp the problem of wrath; one must actively work towards its eradication within oneself. The subsequent couplet (M4:118) reinforces this by drawing an analogy: just as the world cannot escape the presence of urine (چمین), that doesn't make urine pure, running water (ماء معین). The mere existence or prevalence of something does not make it right or spiritually beneficial; one must distinguish between what is common and what is truly pure and guiding.
