M5:205 — چون شوم آلوده باز آنجا روم / سوی اصلِ اصل پاکیها روم

This couplet is spoken by water, which Rumi personifies as a conscious entity. In the preceding verses, water describes how it becomes 'defiled' (نجس) through its interactions in the world, such as washing impurities or flowing through dirty places. However, it doesn't remain defiled. Instead, it asserts its inherent connection to a higher, purer source. The phrase "اصلِ اصل پاکیها" (the very Source of all purities) refers to the vast, unblemished ocean, which for Rumi, is a symbol of God's absolute purity and boundless grace. Just as a drop of water returns to the sea to be purified, the human soul, when stained by worldly imperfections, can return to its divine origin for cleansing and renewal. This reflects a core Sufi belief in the soul's ultimate connection to the Divine and the possibility of spiritual purification through returning to that source.
