M5:96 — مصطفی صبح آمد و در را گشاد / صبح آن گمراه را او راه داد

This couplet marks a pivotal moment in the story. The Prophet Muhammad, referred to here by his epithet Mustafa (the Chosen One), arrives at dawn to open the door for a guest who had stayed the night. The guest, as revealed in the preceding narrative, had been in a state of 'lostness' or 'error' (gomrāh). By opening the door, the Prophet not only provides physical egress but, more profoundly, offers a 'way' or 'path' (rāh) for the guest to leave their state of confusion and shame. Rumi often uses physical actions to symbolize deeper spiritual realities, and here, the opening of a door at dawn represents the dawn of spiritual insight and the provision of divine guidance after a period of inner darkness. The subsequent couplets explain that the Prophet then immediately hid himself, not wanting to embarrass the guest by being seen, emphasizing the compassionate and selfless nature of this act of guidance.
