M4:55 — پس قرین می‌کرد از ذوق آن نفس / با ثنای حق دعای آن عسس

The watchman, who appeared to be a source of terror and misfortune, is revealed to be the unwitting instrument of divine grace, the very cause (sabab) of this blissful reunion.

The lover's reaction is not just relief, but dhawq—a term for profound spiritual tasting or ecstasy. In this elevated state, his gratitude flows in two directions simultaneously. He offers praise (thanā) to God, the ultimate orchestrator of events, and in the very same breath, he offers a prayer (duʿā) for the watchman. This act of pairing the two prayers demonstrates a key Sufi insight, drawn from the Qur'anic verse cited in the story's heading (2:216): what appears to be a curse can be a hidden blessing.
