M1:1528 — آن دم نطقت که جزو جزوهاست / فایده شد کُلِ کُل خالی چراست

This couplet is part of a longer exchange where the Roman Emperor asks Omar why the pure soul (like clear water) is confined in the murky body (like clay). Omar responds by questioning the Emperor's premise and capacity to understand such a divine mystery. The Emperor's 'speech' (نطق) and his act of 'questioning' (بحث) are presented as 'parts of parts' (جزو جزوهاست) – meaning, they are limited, fragmented aspects of human intellect and experience. Omar implies that even this limited human capacity for inquiry and expression 'became useful' (فایده شد) in its own sphere, but it doesn't qualify one to judge or question the ultimate wisdom of the 'Whole of Wholes' (کُلِ کُل), which refers to God or the divine order. The rhetorical question, 'why is the Whole of Wholes empty?' (خالی چراست), is not literal; it's a challenge to the Emperor's assumption that the divine plan might be lacking or illogical from a human perspective. Omar suggests that the Emperor, being a 'part' (جزو), should not presume to criticize or comprehend the 'Whole' (کُل), whose reasons are beyond human grasp. The act of questioning God's wisdom from a limited human viewpoint is seen as an act of hubris.
