M1:1563 — این چنین باشد وفای دوستان / من درین حبس و شما در گلستان

این بیت، اوج شکایت و دل‌شکستگی طوطی زندانی است که از طریق بازرگان برای هم‌نوعان آزاد خود در هندوستان پیغام می‌فرستد. او با مقایسه‌ای تلخ میان وضعیت خود و یارانش، مفهوم وفاداری را به چالش می‌کشد. یک سو «حبس» و قفس است و سوی دیگر «گلستان» و آزادی. این تقابل، عمق تنهایی و رنج او را آشکار می‌کند.

در نگاهی عمیق‌تر، این بیت زبان حال سالک و انسانِ دربندِ عالم ماده است. «حبس» نماد تعلقات دنیوی، جسم و قفس نفس است که روح را از پرواز در «گلستان» عالم معنا و وصال با اصل خود بازمی‌دارد. «دوستان» نیز می‌توانند همان یاران طریق یا حتی جلوه‌های حق باشند که در عالم بالا آزادند، در حالی که سالک در این جهان خاکی گرفتار آمده است. بنابراین، این گله و شکایت، در واقع یک نالهٔ عاشقانه و بیان درد فراق از مبدأ و حقیقت وجودی خویش است.

This couplet is the emotional heart of the caged parrot's message to the free parrots of India. It's a cry of both longing and gentle accusation, using the stark contrast between the cage (habs) and the rose-garden (golestān) to highlight its suffering.

In the story's allegorical layer, the parrot represents the human soul trapped in the cage of the physical body and the material world. The free parrots in the rose-garden of India symbolize liberated souls, or the soul's celestial origin. The parrot's question about the 'loyalty of friends' (vafā-ye dustān) is therefore a profound spiritual lament. It is the soul's address to God, to its spiritual companions, or to its own forgotten, free self, asking: How can you be at peace in the boundless spiritual garden while I am here, confined and separated from you?

The beyt captures the core Sufi experience of firāq (separation) from the Divine Source. It is not just a complaint but a strategic plea, designed to stir compassion and elicit a response that will ultimately show the parrot the way to its own freedom.
