They explicitly state, "I have not made this prayer now, / Neither from without, nor from within." This denial is crucial because it immediately precedes their miraculous disappearance. Rumi uses this scene to highlight the profound spiritual difference between Daquqi, who is deeply connected to the divine, and his companions, who, despite appearing pious, lack true sincerity and inner spiritual engagement.
