M2:26 — عقل با عقل دگر دوتا شود / نور افزون گشت و ره پیدا شود

This couplet is the positive thesis in Rumi's argument for the necessity of spiritual companionship. The surrounding verses contrast the fate of the soul when it allies itself with another of its kind. When one base self (nafs) joins another, darkness deepens and the way is lost (M2:27). But when one intellect (ʿaql) joins another, their shared light intensifies, making the spiritual path visible and navigable.

The imagery is simple and powerful: intellect is light. Just as two lamps in a dark room make it easier to see than one, two minds seeking truth together amplify their perception. Rumi uses Adam's story as a negative example just before this beyt: had Adam taken counsel, he would have avoided his fall (M2:19). The principle, therefore, is not merely social but soteriological: consultation with a true friend or guide (yār) is a crucial safeguard against error and a means of progressing on the spiritual journey.

این بیت در مقدمه‌ی دفتر دوم مثنوی و در ستایش «مشورت» و اهمیت داشتن یک «یار خدایی» آمده است. مولانا توضیح می‌دهد که همان‌طور که همنشینی دو نفس اماره و خودخواه، تاریکی را دوچندان کرده و انسان را به گمراهی می‌کشاند (چنانکه در بیت بعدی می‌گوید)، همراهی دو عقل روشن و الهی نیز نتیجه‌ای معکوس و مبارک دارد.

وقتی دو فرد خردمند با یکدیگر هم‌فکری می‌کنند، قدرت تشخیص و بصیرتشان صرفاً جمع نمی‌شود، بلکه «دوتا» یا دوچندان می‌شود. این اتحاد، نوری مضاعف می‌آفریند که ابهامات و تاریکی‌های مسیر را روشن می‌کند و «راه» معنوی را که پیش از آن پنهان بود، آشکار می‌سازد. در اینجا «عقل» نه به معنای عقل حسابگر و جزئی (که در برابر عشق قرار می‌گیرد) بلکه به معنای خرد الهی و قوه‌ی تشخیص حق از باطل است. این بیت تأکیدی است بر اینکه سلوک معنوی و تصمیم‌گیری‌های مهم زندگی، با کمک و مشورت یک دوست و راهنمای آگاه، بسیار آسان‌تر و ایمن‌تر خواهد بود.
