M2:3500 — تا که را باشد خسارت زین فراق‌‌؟! / من خوشم جفت حق و با خلق طاق

This couplet is spoken by the dervish who was falsely accused of theft on a ship. Having miraculously manifested a bounty of pearls from the sea and then ascended into the air to sit on a cushion of wind, he addresses the bewildered passengers. He tells them, 'Go your way, the ship is yours, and God is mine.'

The dervish's question, 'Who, then, shall suffer loss from this parting?!' is rhetorical. He implies that it is the people on the ship who are at a disadvantage, not him. He is 'jofte ḥaq' (جفت حق), 'wedded to Truth' or 'united with God,' which signifies a state of profound spiritual connection and contentment. In this state, he is 'bā khalq ṭāq' (با خلق طاق), meaning 'done with creation' or 'independent of people.' Their accusations and company no longer affect him. His separation from them is not a loss but a liberation, as his true companion is God.

This beyt highlights a core Sufi theme: the true dervish, being connected to the Divine, is indifferent to worldly affairs, human judgment, and material possessions. Their joy and fulfillment come from God alone, making them impervious to the 'loss' that ordinary people fear.
