M2:1763 — آتشی از عشق در جانْ بَر فُروز / سَر بِسَر فکر و عبارت را بسوز

این بیت، اوج توبیخ خداوند به موسی در داستان شبان است. موسی چوپان را به خاطر عبارات ساده و عاشقانه‌اش سرزنش کرده بود، اما خداوند به او یادآوری می‌کند که ارزش حقیقی در «حال» و «سوز» درونی است، نه در «قال» و کلمات ظاهری.

در اینجا، «فکر و عبارت» نماینده‌ی دینداریِ مبتنی بر عقل، منطق، آداب و رسوم و کلامِ سنجیده است. خداوند از موسی می‌خواهد که از این سطح فراتر رود. فرمان «بسوز» یک دستور رادیکال برای عبور از معرفت فکری و رسیدن به معرفت شهودی و عاشقانه است. آتش عشق، تمام ساختارهای ذهنی و زبانی را که می‌توانند حجابی بین بنده و معبود شوند، از میان برمی‌دارد و راه را برای یک اتحاد بی‌واسطه و قلبی باز می‌کند. این بیت، تقابل بنیادین میان «عقل» و «عشق» را در مکتب مولانا به نمایش می‌گذارد و برتری مطلق عشق را اعلام می‌کند.

This couplet comes from the famous story of Moses and the Shepherd, where Moses chastises a shepherd for his uncouth and anthropomorphic prayers, only for God to rebuke Moses. God explains that He values the sincerity and heartfelt devotion of the shepherd far more than the grammatically correct or formally appropriate prayers Moses insists upon. In this specific beyt, God is directly instructing Moses on the true nature of worship. He tells Moses to 'kindle a fire of love in your soul' (آتشی از عشق در جانْ بَر فُروز), emphasizing that genuine devotion stems from a passionate, inner state of love, not from external forms. The second hemistich, 'Burn away all thought and mere expression whole' (سَر بِسَر فکر و عبارت را بسوز), is a radical call to transcend intellectualizing, linguistic precision, and the 'grammar' of religion. It implies that when the heart is ablaze with love, the need for elaborate words, careful formulations, or even correct theological concepts becomes secondary, or even a hindrance. The true aim is the raw, unmediated connection with the Divine, which pure love facilitates, bypassing the limitations of human intellect and language. This is a central Sufi teaching: muḥw (effacement) over naḥw (grammar), as Soroush notes elsewhere.
