M3:2587 — بر تن مرده بخواندم گشت حَی / بر سر لاشَی بخواندم گشت شَی

This couplet is spoken by Jesus (ʿĪsā) in a story where he is explaining the immense power of the divine 'Greatest Name' (Ism-e A'zam) that God has bestowed upon him. He lists various miracles he has performed with this Name: healing the deaf and blind (M3:2585), splitting rocks (M3:2586), and here, bringing the dead back to life and creating something from nothing. This establishes the extraordinary, transformative power of this divine utterance. The subsequent verses (M3:2588-2595) then introduce a crucial contrast: despite this immense power, Jesus finds that the same Name has no effect on the 'heart of a fool' (دل احمق), which remains impervious. This highlights that while the Name can alter physical reality, it cannot force spiritual receptivity or remove the stubbornness of ignorance, which Rumi presents as a divine 'wrath' (قهر خدا) rather than a mere 'affliction' (ابتلا).
