M2:3139 — یوسف وقتی و خورشید سما / زین چه و زندان بر آ و رو نما

This couplet is a direct address to the reader's soul, personifying it as a 'Joseph of your age' and the 'sun of the heavens.' The imagery of Joseph (Yusuf) immediately evokes his story from the Quran and biblical tradition: cast into a pit by his brothers, then imprisoned, only to later rise to power and reveal his true, radiant self. The 'pit and prison' (چه و زندان) thus symbolize the soul's current state of confinement and obscurity, brought about by worldly attachments, ignorance, and the 'dark and narrow' heart described in previous verses.

Rumi is telling the soul that it possesses an inherent, magnificent light—like the sun itself—but it is currently hidden. The call to 'come forth' (بر آ) and 'reveal your face' (رو نما) is an exhortation to awaken to its true nature, to transcend the limitations of the ego and the material world, and to manifest its divine potential.
