M3:3274 — مر مرا محروم کردن زین مراد / لایق لطفت نباشد ای جواد

This couplet is the climax of the young man's appeal to the prophet Moses. Having been warned that his desire to understand the language of animals is dangerous, the man switches tactics from spiritual justification to flattery. He addresses Moses with the epithet Jawād (the Generous), an attribute properly belonging to God, but here applied to God's prophet as His representative on earth.

The man's argument is a subtle form of emotional and spiritual leverage. He frames his wish (murād) not as a mere whim, but as a profound desire. He then argues that for a figure of Moses's spiritual stature and kindness (luṭf), refusing such a heartfelt request would be a contradiction, an act unworthy of his nature. It is a skillful, if misguided, attempt to corner the prophet by appealing to his highest virtues, suggesting that true generosity means granting the petitioner's wish, regardless of the consequences.
