How the physicians proved helpless in treating the slave-girl, and the King turned to God's Threshold, and saw a saint in a dream

M1:56 رفت در مسجد سوی محراب شدسجده‌گاه از اشکِ شه پُر آب شد He went to the mosque, toward the prayer-niche he drew,The place of prostration was soaked with the king’s tears through and through.Having given up on his physicians, the king sought refuge in the mosque, where he wept so intensely at the prayer-niche that the spot where he prostrated became flooded with his tears. ❋

M1:60 لیک گفتی گرچه می‌دانم سِرَتزود هم پیدا کُنَش بر ظاهرت And yet You said, 'Though I know your inmost secret,'Make it appear upon your outward self.'The king says in his prayer that although God knows our hidden needs, God Himself has instructed us to articulate them and bring them into the open. ❋

  8. M1:62 در میان گریه خوابش دَر رُبوددید در خواب او که پیری رو نمود In the midst of weeping, sleep stole him away;In his dream he saw an elder show his face.While weeping in despair over his beloved's illness, the king fell asleep and dreamed of a luminous old sage appearing before him. ❋
  9. M1:63 گفت ای شه مژده، حاجاتت رواستگر غریبی آیدت فردا، ز ماست He said, “O King, glad tidings! Your needs are fulfilled.If a stranger comes to you tomorrow, he is from Us.”In a dream, an elder tells the king that his prayers have been answered and that a divinely sent stranger will arrive the next day to help him. ❋

M1:68 دید شخصی کاملی پُر مایه‌ایآفتابی درمیانِ سایه‌ای He saw a person, perfect and rich in soul,A sun appearing from within a shadow.The king saw the divine physician he had been promised in a dream: a perfect human being, a source of spiritual grace and illumination, like a sun shining through the shadows of the world. ❋

M1:69 می‌رسید از دور مانند هلالنیست بود و هست بر شکلِ خیال He approached from afar like a crescent moon,was nothing, yet existed, in the shape of a phantasm.The divine physician's arrival was so subtle and ethereal that he seemed to hover between existence and non-existence, like the barely visible new moon or a figure from a dream. ❋

M1:70 نیست‌وش باشد خیال اندر روانتو جهانی بر خیالی بین روان A phantom in the soul is like a thing of naught,yet see a world set flowing by a phantom's thought.Though an image or idea in the soul seems insubstantial, like nothing, the entire world and all its affairs are in fact driven and set in motion by such phantoms. ❋

M1:71 بر خیالی صلحشان و جنگشانوز خیالی فخرشان و ننگشان Upon a fancy rests their peace, their war;From a fancy, their glory and their shame.This couplet states that humanity's greatest conflicts and allegiances, as well as its core values like honor and shame, are all based on mental constructs and images that have no substance in themselves. ❋

M1:72 آن خیالاتی که دام اولیاستعکسِ مه‌رویانِ بُستانِ خداست Those visions that become the snare of saints,Are reflections of the moon-faced beauties in God's garden.The mental images and visions that captivate God's saints are not delusions; rather, they are true reflections of the transcendent, spiritual beauties that reside in the divine realm. ❋

M1:73 آن خیالی که شه اندر خواب دیددر رخ مهمان همی آمد پدید That visionary form the king saw in his dreamWas now appearing on the guest's own face.This couplet describes the moment the king's inner vision from a dream manifests in the external world, as the face of the arriving guest perfectly matches the image he saw while asleep. ❋

M1:74 شه به جای حاجبان فا‌ پیش رفتپیش آن مهمانِ غیبِ خویش رفت The king, forgoing chamberlains, himself went forth,He went to meet that hidden guest, his very own.This verse shows the king immediately setting aside all royal protocol and intermediaries to personally and eagerly welcome the spiritual visitor, recognizing him as someone intimately connected to his own being. ❋

M1:75 هر دو بحری‌ آشنا آموختههر دو جان بی‌دوختن بر‌دوخته Two oceans, both had learned the swimmer's art,Two souls, sewn fast together, though unstitched.This verse describes the profound, inherent spiritual harmony between the King and the divine Physician, whose souls were united from the very beginning without any need for an external connection. ❋

M1:76 گفت معشوقم تو بودستی نه آنلیک کار از کار خیزد در جهان “My true Beloved was you, not that other one,” he said,“But in this world, one task from another is bred.”The King realizes his true goal was not to heal the handmaiden, but to meet this divine guide, acknowledging that in life, one endeavor often leads to an unforeseen and higher purpose. ❋
  23. M1:77 ای مرا تو مصطفی من چو عُمَراز برای خدمتت بندم کمر You are my Mustafā, and I am like ‘Umar;I bind my waist to stand in your service.The king expresses his absolute humility and devotion to the divine physician, comparing the sage to the Prophet Muhammad and himself to a loyal companion ready to serve. ❋
